The Mustang Ace Program
This project introduces students to basic horticulture knowledge and hands-on
practice. Students learn about sustainable practices and conservation of natural
resources like soil and water. We select gardening topics that address vegetable and
flower gardening, as well as water conservation, soils, composting, and using native
plants. We discuss and explore insects and their role in pollination. We have eighteen
garden beds where the students plan, work, plant, and harvest.
This project will take place weekly following the Marble Falls ISD school calendar with
periodic breaks for seasonal changes and to plan and gather supplies.
Spring 2026 Schedule
The Mustang Ace gardening program will meet at Spicewood Elementary on Tuesdays
from 4:15-5:45. We work with small groups of fifteen students in first through fifth grade
in the format of a gardening club. We coordinate with the campus Mustang Ace site
coordinator.
We are looking for volunteers to help with lessons and tend to the beds. We would also
like to have speakers present on a topic they are enthusiastic about and would like to
share
their knowledge with the students. If you have ideas about activities, we can do with the
students let us know. If any of these opportunities speak to you, please reach out to us!
