The Mustang Ace Program

Mustang ACE is the after-school program for the Marble Falls Independent School District.
We meet with students attending the after-school program at Spicewood Elementary School. Collaborating with the Mustang ACE coordinator we work with students in groups 10-15 for about six weeks a session.
This project introduces students to basic horticulture knowledge and hands-on
practice. Students learn about sustainable practices and conservation of natural
resources like soil and water. We select gardening topics that address vegetable and
flower gardening, as well as water conservation, soils, composting, and using native
plants. We discuss and explore insects and their role in pollination. We have eighteen garden beds where the students plan, work, plant, and harvest.

Summer 2026
We finished the semester with beds full of vegetables ready to harvest in the next month. Faculty at the school will maintain, harvest, and share the produce through the summer.
We plan to start working with the students Fall 2026 semester.
We are looking for volunteers to help with lessons and tend to the beds. We would also like to have speakers present on a topic they are enthusiastic about and would like to share
their knowledge with the students. If you have ideas about activities, we can do with the students let us know. If any of these opportunities speak to you, please reach out to us!
