Highland Lakes Master Gardener Association
Scholarship Program
The Highland Lakes Master Gardener Association (HLMGA) provides volunteer services to the local community which focuses on educating the public in advanced horticultural ideas and practices. In addition to the various educational projects in which the members participate, the Association offers scholarships to undergraduate students currently enrolled in a horticultural degree curriculum and graduating seniors from area High Schools who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree/technical certification in the agricultural or horticultural sciences.
2020 Scholarship Recipients
The HLMGA Scholarship Committee is delighted to announce the selection of two recipients of the HLMGA Scholarship. Both awardees are seniors in Burnet County, one from Burnet High School and the other, Marble Falls High School. It was a pleasure to review their applications and interview these young women.
By alphabetical order, the first recipient is Katelyn Moore, from BHS, headed to Oklahoma State University, Agri-Business/Pre-Law. Her experience speaks to Burnet FFA, raising and showing market steers, National Honor Society and family ranching with a passion for family-owned and operated farms and ranches. An outstanding student, no doubt that Katelyn will have great success at OSU!
Our second recipient is Kenadee Stewart, from MFHS, headed to Texas A & M. Also an outstanding student, Kenadee served as an Area FFA Officer, and plans to run for a State FFA position that would allow her to serve and attend university at the same time. Her past experience includes Grand Champion Agricultural Mechanics Marketplace Competition, in addition to being ranked #3 out of 277 students. Her goal is to work in the agriculture field focusing on marketing and sales.
Both students demonstrate a remarkable skill at managing their academic and extracurricular activities, while also being engaging and dynamic individuals. Congratulations to our awardees!
The scholarship materials will be updated and made available for applicants for the 2021 Call for Applications in January 2021.
